About Anthurium 'Flamingo' Mix

Anthurium 'Flamingo' Mix, commonly known as the Flamingo Flower, is an attractive tropical houseplant prized for its glossy green foliage and striking, long-lasting flowers. The colourful heart-shaped structures commonly referred to as flowers are actually waxy spathes, each surrounding a prominent central flower spike called a spadix.

The 'Flamingo' Mix offers a selection of flower colours, which may include red, pink, white and other complementary shades, depending on availability. With the right indoor conditions, Anthuriums can flower repeatedly throughout the year.

Supplied in a P12 (approximately 12cm) nursery pot.

Position & Light

• Position indoors in bright, indirect light.
• Avoid strong direct midday or afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
• Some gentle morning or evening sun is usually tolerated.
• Insufficient light can reduce flowering.
• Keep away from cold draughts and frequently opened exterior doors.
• A warm bathroom or kitchen can be particularly suitable due to the higher humidity.

Watering

Anthuriums prefer evenly moist compost but dislike sitting in water.

• Water when the top 2–3cm of compost feels dry.
• Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away.
• Never leave the pot permanently standing in water.
• Reduce watering during the darker winter months.
• Avoid allowing the root ball to remain completely dry for prolonged periods.
• If possible, use rainwater or relatively soft water.

Humidity & Temperature

As tropical plants, Anthuriums appreciate warm, humid conditions.

• Ideal temperatures are approximately 18–27°C.
• Avoid temperatures below approximately 15°C where possible.
• Keep away from cold draughts.
• Moderate to high humidity encourages healthy foliage.
• Grouping houseplants together can help increase local humidity.
• A bright bathroom can provide excellent growing conditions.

Feeding

• Feed approximately every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer.
• Use a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser at the recommended dilution.
• Reduce or stop feeding during winter when growth slows.
• Avoid excessive fertiliser, which can damage the roots.

Pruning & Maintenance

Very little pruning is required.

• Remove faded flowers by cutting their stems near the base.
• Remove yellow or damaged leaves as required.
• Wipe the large glossy leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust.
• Regular cleaning helps the foliage look its best and maximises the light reaching the leaves.
• Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage balanced growth.

Repotting

Anthuriums generally prefer being slightly snug in their pots.

• Repot approximately every 2–3 years, or when noticeably root-bound.
• Spring is the ideal time for repotting.
• Move into a container only slightly larger than the existing pot.
• Use a loose, airy and free-draining houseplant mix.
• A mix suitable for aroids, containing materials such as bark and perlite, works particularly well.
• Always use a container with adequate drainage holes.

Common Problems

• Yellow leaves: Often caused by overwatering or poor drainage.
• Brown leaf tips: Commonly associated with dry air, inconsistent watering or mineral build-up.
• No flowers: Often caused by insufficient light.
• Drooping leaves: Check whether the compost is excessively wet or dry.
• Pale or scorched patches: May indicate too much direct sunlight.
• Spider mites, mealybugs and scale insects: Occasionally occur on indoor plants; inspect leaves regularly.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
