Chrysanthemum indicum Mix – Planting & Care Guide
About Chrysanthemum indicum Mix
Chrysanthemum indicum Mix, commonly known as the Garden Chrysanthemum, is a colourful, long-flowering perennial that produces masses of vibrant blooms in shades of yellow, white, pink, red, bronze, orange and purple. Flowering from late summer through autumn, these cheerful plants bring brilliant colour to the garden just as many summer flowers begin to fade.
Growing to approximately 40–70cm tall with a spread of 40–60cm, Chrysanthemum indicum forms neat, bushy clumps of attractive green foliage topped with an abundance of daisy-like or double flowers. They are excellent for borders, patio containers, seasonal displays and cut flower arrangements. Their late-season blooms are also a valuable source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.
Planting Guide
- Plant in full sun for the best flowering display.
- Choose a sheltered position protected from strong winds.
- Prefers fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
- Improve poor soils by incorporating compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
- Dig a planting hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth.
- Carefully remove the plant from its pot and gently loosen the roots.
- Position the crown level with the surrounding soil.
- Backfill with soil, firm gently and water thoroughly.
- Apply a 5–8cm layer of organic mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Space plants approximately 40–50cm apart to allow good air circulation.
