Planting & Positioning

• Clematis alpina ‘Pink Flamingo’ is an early-flowering, deciduous climber producing nodding, semi-double soft pink blooms in spring.

• Ideal for trellis, fences, arches, pergolas, or scrambling naturally through shrubs and small trees.

• Best planted in full sun or partial shade. It tolerates cooler, shadier positions better than many large-flowered clematis.

• Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.

• Avoid waterlogged sites, particularly in winter.

• Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly deeper than the pot.

• Plant with the crown 5–8 cm below soil level to encourage strong growth and reduce risk of wilt.

• Backfill with compost-enriched soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.

• Apply mulch around the base to retain moisture and keep roots cool.

• Provide support at planting time to guide young stems as they establish.

This variety is particularly well suited to cottage gardens and informal planting schemes.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a strong root system.

• Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.

• Once established, Clematis alpina is relatively low maintenance and tolerant of short dry spells.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser to support healthy growth.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen-rich feeds, which may encourage leafy growth over flowers.

• Flowers appear in mid to late spring, often earlier than many other clematis varieties.

• After flowering, attractive fluffy seed heads may develop, adding further interest.

This early-season bloomer provides valuable colour when many other climbers are just beginning to grow.

Pruning, Maintenance & Care

• Clematis alpina ‘Pink Flamingo’ belongs to pruning Group 1.

• Requires minimal pruning.

• If shaping is necessary, prune lightly immediately after flowering.

• Remove any dead, damaged, or weak stems as needed.

• Avoid hard pruning, as flowers are produced on the previous year’s growth.

• Ensure supports remain secure, especially in exposed areas.

• Mulch annually in spring to conserve moisture and improve soil structure.

• Generally resistant to clematis wilt and low maintenance when planted in suitable conditions.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
