Planting & Positioning

• Clematis ‘Dr. Ruppel’ is a large-flowered climber producing striking pale pink blooms with a deeper rose-pink central stripe and contrasting stamens.

• Flowers appear in late spring to early summer, with a possible lighter second flush in late summer.

• Best planted in full sun or light partial shade.

• For optimal results, keep the roots cool and shaded while allowing the top growth to reach sunlight.

• Ideal for growing up trellis, fences, pergolas, obelisks, or through shrubs and climbing roses.

• Prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.

• Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly deeper than the pot.

• Plant with the crown set 5–8 cm below soil level to encourage strong shoots and protect against wilt.

• Backfill with compost-enriched soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.

• Apply a mulch around the base to retain moisture and shade the roots.

Providing support from the start will help young stems climb and establish quickly.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish strong roots.

• Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

• During dry spells, water deeply to ensure moisture reaches the root zone.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser.

• Apply a high-potash fertiliser in late spring to encourage abundant flowering.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen, which may promote leaf growth at the expense of flowers.

• Deadhead spent blooms after the first flush to encourage a possible second flowering.

• Container-grown plants require more frequent watering and feeding.

Clematis ‘Dr. Ruppel’ is known for its large, showy blooms and performs best with regular feeding and consistent moisture.

Pruning, Maintenance & Care

• Clematis ‘Dr. Ruppel’ belongs to pruning Group 2.

• Lightly prune in late winter or early spring before active growth begins.

• Remove dead or weak stems first.

• Cut remaining stems back to a strong pair of buds, typically about 30–60 cm from the base.

• After the first flush of flowers, lightly trim to encourage repeat blooming.

• Provide sturdy support and tie in new shoots as they grow.

• Protect young plants from severe frost during their first winter if necessary.

• Watch for signs of clematis wilt; planting deeply helps reduce this risk.

With proper support, regular feeding, and correct pruning, Clematis ‘Dr. Ruppel’ will provide elegant, large blooms and vertical interest in the garden year after year.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
