Light & Positioning

• Dracaena marginata, commonly known as the Madagascar Dragon Tree, is a striking indoor plant with slender stems and narrow, arching leaves edged in red.

• Place in bright, indirect light for best growth and colour intensity.

• Tolerates moderate light conditions, making it suitable for offices and living rooms.

• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause brown patches.

• In low light, growth may slow and leaves may lose some vibrancy.

• Rotate the plant occasionally to encourage even, upright growth.

• Ideal indoor temperatures range between 18–24°C.

• Avoid temperatures below 12°C and protect from cold draughts.

• Keep away from radiators, fireplaces, and air conditioning units to prevent leaf tip damage.

Dracaena marginata adds height and structure to interior spaces and works well as a focal point in modern and contemporary settings.

Watering & Feeding

• Allow the top 3–5 cm of compost to dry out before watering.

• Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains freely from the base of the pot.

• Never allow the plant to sit in standing water, as this can lead to root rot.

• Reduce watering frequency in autumn and winter when growth slows.

• Overwatering may cause yellowing leaves and soft stems.

• Underwatering can lead to brown leaf tips and dry edges.

• Dracaena is sensitive to fluoride and salts in tap water, which may cause leaf tip browning. If possible, use rainwater or allow tap water to stand overnight before use.

• Feed every 4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser.

• Do not feed during the winter months.

Maintaining a consistent watering routine without overwatering is key to keeping this plant healthy.

Repotting, Pruning & General Care

• Repot every 2–3 years in spring, or when roots become crowded.

• Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one to avoid excess moisture retention.

• Use a free-draining, peat-free houseplant compost.

• Remove any yellow or damaged leaves by gently pulling them away from the stem.

• Trim brown leaf tips carefully with clean scissors if necessary, following the natural leaf shape.

• If the plant becomes too tall or leggy, the stem can be cut back in spring to encourage new shoots.

• The cut section can be rooted to create a new plant.

• Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve appearance.

• Check periodically for pests such as spider mites or scale insects.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
