Overview & Features

• Lonicera × heckrottii is a vigorous, semi-evergreen climbing honeysuckle known for its fragrant, colourful flowers.

• Produces clusters of tubular blooms, typically pink to rose on the outside with creamy-yellow or orange throats.

• Flowers appear from late spring through summer and may continue into early autumn.

• Lightly to strongly scented, especially in warm weather.

• Followed by small red berries in autumn if pollinated.

• Features mid-green foliage that provides good seasonal coverage.

• Typically grows 4–5 metres in height when mature.

• Ideal for pergolas, arches, trellis, walls, and fences.

• Attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

This hybrid is valued for its long flowering period and sweet fragrance.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun or partial shade.

• Best flowering occurs when the upper growth is in sun and roots are kept cool.

• Prefers fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.

• Improve soil with compost or well-rotted manure before planting.

• Avoid very dry or waterlogged conditions.

• Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball and the same depth.

• Position slightly angled towards a support structure.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Provide strong support such as wires, trellis, or fencing.

Lonicera × heckrottii performs best in sheltered locations protected from strong winds.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots.

• Keep soil evenly moist during prolonged dry spells.

• Once established, plants are moderately drought tolerant.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to promote healthy growth and flowering.

• Apply compost annually to maintain soil fertility.

• Flowering typically begins in late spring and continues through summer.

• Deadheading can help encourage additional blooms.

Consistent moisture during active growth supports extended flowering.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Prune after the main flowering flush to control size and shape.

• Remove weak, damaged, or overcrowded stems to improve airflow.

• Cut back older stems periodically to encourage fresh growth.

• Tie in new shoots to supports as they develop.

• Mulch annually to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

• Monitor for aphids and powdery mildew in dry conditions.

• Generally hardy and low maintenance once established.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
