Overview & Features

• Pyracantha ‘Orange Charmer’ is a vigorous, evergreen shrub known for its bright orange autumn berries.

• Produces clusters of small white flowers in late spring to early summer.

• Flowers are followed by masses of decorative orange berries that persist into winter.

• Features glossy, dark green foliage that provides year-round structure.

• Thorny stems make it ideal for security hedging or boundary planting.

• Typically grows to 2–3 metres in height and spread if left unpruned.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun or partial shade.

• Full sun encourages the best berry production.

• Prefers well-drained soil but tolerates most soil types, including clay.

• Avoid waterlogged positions, especially in winter.

• Ideal for walls, fences, hedging, and screening.

• Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball and the same depth.

• Position the plant at the same depth as it was in the pot.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants 60–100 cm apart for hedging, depending on desired density.

Pyracantha performs best in open, well-ventilated positions.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, particularly in winter.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to support flowering and berry production.

• Apply compost annually to improve soil structure and fertility.

• Flowering occurs in late spring to early summer.

• Berries develop in late summer and remain through autumn and winter.

Good sunlight improves both flowering and berry colour.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage berry development.

• For wall-trained plants, tie in main shoots and trim side shoots as needed.

• Remove overcrowded or crossing branches to improve airflow.

• Wear gloves when pruning due to sharp thorns.

• Monitor for common issues such as fireblight and leaf spot.

• Trim hedges in late summer after berries have formed if shape control is required.

• Generally hardy and low maintenance once established.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
