Planting and Positioning

ROSA DIAMOND DAD is a striking hybrid tea rose variety celebrated for its elegant, well-formed blooms and delightful fragrance. To ensure its long-term success and vibrant display, correct planting and positioning are essential.

• Choose a Sunny Spot: Plant in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. This encourages strong growth and prolific flowering.

• Well-Drained Soil: Roses dislike sitting in waterlogged soil. Improve drainage by incorporating grit or planting on a slight mound if needed.

• Soil Preparation: Before planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or compost to improve fertility and structure.

• Space Adequately: Ensure ample space around the plant for air circulation to reduce the risk of disease. Typically, allow around 60cm (24 inches) between plants.

• Planting Depth: Position the rose so that the graft union (the swollen part where the rose is grafted onto the rootstock) is just below soil level. Backfill with enriched soil and firm gently.

• Water Thoroughly: After planting, water deeply to settle the soil around the roots.

Ongoing Care and Maintenance

Once established, ROSA DIAMOND DAD is relatively easy to care for with some basic ongoing maintenance. Attention to feeding, watering, and pruning will ensure your rose performs at its best.

• Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy during the growing season. Water deeply at the base rather than overhead to prevent disease.

• Feeding: Apply a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring as new growth appears. Repeat feeding after the first flush of flowers and again in midsummer if needed.

• Mulching: Apply a 5–8 cm (2–3 inch) mulch of well-rotted organic matter in spring to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and improve soil condition.

• Deadheading: Remove spent blooms regularly to encourage repeat flowering. Cut back to the first set of healthy leaves or a strong outward-facing bud.

• Pest Control: Monitor for common rose pests such as aphids and treat promptly using insecticidal soap or encourage natural predators like ladybirds.

• Disease Prevention: Promote airflow by spacing properly and pruning to open the centre of the plant. Look out for signs of black spot, mildew, or rust, and treat with a suitable fungicide if necessary.

Pruning and Winter Protection

Pruning is key to maintaining the shape, health, and performance of your ROSA DIAMOND DAD rose. Winter care will also help protect it during cold months.

• Prune in Late Winter or Early Spring: When the worst frosts have passed but before new growth starts (typically February or March), prune your rose.

• How to Prune: Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing stems. Cut back the main stems by about one-third to an outward-facing bud to encourage a vase-like shape.

• Use Clean Tools: Always use sharp, clean secateurs to make clean cuts and reduce the risk of disease.

• Remove Suckers: Check for and remove any shoots emerging from below the graft union as these are from the rootstock and not true to the rose.

• Winter Protection: In colder areas, mound soil or mulch around the base in late autumn to protect roots from freezing. Consider a rose collar or fleece in exposed locations.

• Container Roses: If grown in pots, move to a sheltered spot or wrap containers with insulation to protect roots from frost damage.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
