Rosa ‘Princess Alexandra of Kent’ is one of the most exceptional English roses bred by David Austin, admired for its enormous blooms, beautiful colour, and outstanding fragrance. This rose offers everything gardeners look for: reliability, repeat flowering, and the classic romantic look that enhances any outdoor space. Named in honour of Princess Alexandra, a supporter of many horticultural charities, this rose embodies elegance, generosity, and charm.
The blooms are truly impressive—among the largest of all David Austin varieties. Each flower presents a deeply cupped form filled with countless soft pink petals that become warmer and more intense toward the centre. As the blooms open, they reveal a full rosette shape that stands out beautifully in borders, beds, or container plantings. Whether displayed as a focal point or incorporated into a mixed planting scheme, this rose never fails to be a showstopper.
Gardeners appreciate not only its beauty but also its strength. Rosa ‘Princess Alexandra of Kent’ is known for its dependable growth, excellent hardiness, and strong disease resistance. It performs exceptionally well in Irish gardens, coping with damp conditions and still producing flush after flush of flowers from early summer to autumn. Its fragrance—rich, warm, and reminiscent of tea with hints of lemon—adds another layer of appeal, especially in areas close to patios, walkways, or seating.
This rose thrives with minimal effort. A sunny position, well-enriched soil, and routine feeding are generally all it needs to flourish. Annual pruning keeps it looking tidy and encourages new growth, while mulching helps retain moisture and improve soil health. Because of its manageable size—typically around 1.2m x 1.2m—it fits into gardens of all shapes and sizes.
