Planting & Positioning

• Trachelospermum jasminoides, commonly known as Star Jasmine, is an evergreen climber prized for its glossy dark green leaves and intensely fragrant white, star-shaped flowers.

• Best planted in full sun or light partial shade for the strongest flowering.

• Choose a warm, sheltered position, ideally against a south- or west-facing wall where it can benefit from reflected heat.

• Prefers fertile, well-drained soil and does not tolerate prolonged winter waterlogging.

• Improve heavy soils with grit or organic matter before planting.

• Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the plant so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Provide sturdy support such as trellis or horizontal wires, as young plants will need tying in.

• Apply a mulch in spring to conserve moisture and improve soil structure, keeping it clear of the stem.

Star Jasmine is ideal for covering walls, fences, pergolas, and arches, especially near patios or doorways where its fragrance can be enjoyed.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system.

• Allow the soil surface to dry slightly between watering, but do not let young plants dry out completely.

• Once established, it is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from watering during prolonged dry periods.

• Container-grown plants require more frequent watering, particularly in warm weather.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser.

• A light feed in early summer can help encourage abundant flowering.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen-rich fertilisers, which may promote foliage growth at the expense of flowers.

• Flowering typically occurs from mid to late summer, producing masses of fragrant white blooms.

The scent is strongest in warm weather and can fill the surrounding area with fragrance.

Pruning, Maintenance & Winter Care

• Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and control size.

• Remove long or straggly shoots and tie in new growth to supports.

• Avoid heavy pruning in late autumn, as this may reduce flowering the following year.

• In colder areas, protect young plants during severe frost with horticultural fleece.

• Established plants are hardy in sheltered gardens but may suffer leaf damage in prolonged freezing weather.

• Ensure excellent drainage during winter to prevent root problems.

• Container plants can be moved to a sheltered position during harsh weather if needed.

• Check occasionally for pests such as aphids or scale insects and treat promptly if necessary.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
