Planting & Positioning

• Trachelospermum ‘Star of Toscane’ is an evergreen climbing plant valued for its glossy foliage and highly fragrant, star-shaped flowers that open creamy yellow and deepen to rich golden tones.

• Best planted in full sun or light partial shade for the strongest flowering and leaf colour.

• Choose a warm, sheltered position, ideally against a south- or west-facing wall where it will benefit from reflected heat.

• Prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate prolonged winter waterlogging.

• If planting in heavier soil, improve drainage with grit or organic matter before planting.

• Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the plant so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Provide support such as trellis, wires, or a fence, as this climber will need tying in while establishing.

• Apply a mulch around the base in spring to retain moisture, keeping it clear of the stem.

‘Star of Toscane’ is ideal for walls, pergolas, arches, and sheltered patios where its fragrance can be fully enjoyed in summer.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a strong root system.

• Allow the soil surface to dry slightly between watering, but do not let young plants dry out completely.

• Once established, it is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from watering during prolonged dry spells.

• Container-grown plants require more frequent watering, especially in warm weather.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser.

• A light feed in early summer can support flowering.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen-rich fertilisers, which may encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

• Flowering typically occurs from mid to late summer, with masses of fragrant blooms.

The scent is strongest in warm weather and makes this plant particularly suited to seating areas and doorways.

Pruning, Maintenance & Winter Care

• Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and control size.

• Remove any long, straggly shoots and tie in new growth to its support.

• Avoid heavy pruning in autumn, as this may reduce flowering the following year.

• In colder regions, protect young plants during severe frost with horticultural fleece.

• Established plants are hardy in sheltered gardens but may suffer leaf damage in prolonged freezing conditions.

• Ensure good drainage in winter to prevent root problems.

• Container plants can be moved to a sheltered spot during harsh winter weather.

• Check occasionally for pests such as aphids or scale insects and treat if necessary.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
