Description and Characteristics
Agapanthus ‘Fireworks’ is a modern, award-winning variety of African Lily, celebrated for its explosive bicolour blooms that resemble a firework display. Each flower features a crisp white base with rich blue-purple flared tips, creating a bold contrast that draws attention from midsummer into early autumn. It was awarded the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year 2019 finalist, reflecting its strong garden performance and ornamental value.
This clump-forming, deciduous perennial typically grows to 90–100 cm in height when in flower, with a spread of about 50–60 cm. The large, rounded umbels of flowers are carried on tall, sturdy stems above strappy, bright green foliage that adds a lush texture to garden beds or containers.
‘Fireworks’ flowers from July through September, offering long-lasting colour and attracting a wide range of pollinators. It’s particularly well-suited to sunny borders, large containers, contemporary garden designs, and coastal settings.
