• Agapanthus ‘Poppin’ Purple’ is a compact, repeat-flowering African Lily known for its vibrant purple-blue blooms.

• Produces rounded clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers held on strong, upright stems.

• Flowers over a long period from early to late summer, with excellent reblooming performance.

• Forms neat clumps of strap-like green foliage that provide structure in borders and containers.

• Typically reaches 50–70 cm in height when in flower.

• Ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, and patio pots.

• Attractive to bees and pollinators.

• Excellent as a cut flower with long-lasting blooms.

• Performs well in coastal gardens when soil drainage is good.

This variety is especially valued for its compact habit and extended flowering season.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the strongest flowering and richest colour.

• Prefers fertile, well-drained soil.

• In heavy or clay soils, improve drainage with grit or organic matter before planting.

• Ideal for borders, raised beds, or large patio containers.

• Agapanthus flower best when slightly root restricted, making them particularly suitable for pots.

• Dig a hole the same depth as the pot and twice as wide.

• Position the plant so the crown sits level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Choose a sheltered position in colder gardens to protect from harsh winter winds.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish strong roots.

• Keep soil consistently moist during active growth, but avoid waterlogging.

• Once established, plants are moderately drought tolerant but perform best with consistent moisture.

• Container-grown plants will require more frequent watering during warm weather.

• Feed in spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser.

• During flowering, apply a high-potash feed every few weeks to encourage repeat blooms.

• Remove spent flowers promptly to promote further flowering.

• Reduce watering in autumn as growth slows.

With regular feeding and full sun, ‘Poppin’ Purple’ will produce multiple flushes of flowers throughout summer.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Deadhead faded flower stems by cutting them back to the base once blooms finish.

• Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the end of the season.

• In mild climates, foliage may remain evergreen through winter.

• In colder areas, apply a protective mulch around the crown in late autumn.

• Avoid heavy pruning during the growing season.

• Divide mature clumps every 3–4 years in spring if flowering reduces or plants become congested.

• Repot container-grown plants every few years, refreshing compost while keeping roots slightly restricted.

• Check occasionally for slugs or snails on young growth.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
