Overview & Features

• Allium ‘Magic’ is a compact ornamental onion producing rounded clusters of star-shaped purple flowers.

• Flowers appear in late spring to early summer, adding bold colour to borders.

• Forms tidy clumps of upright green foliage.

• Typically reaches 40–60 cm in height, making it ideal for the middle or front of borders.

• Attractive to bees and other pollinators.

• Excellent for cut flower arrangements, both fresh and dried.

• Provides architectural interest with its globe-shaped blooms.

• Returns reliably each year when planted in suitable conditions.

This variety offers strong seasonal impact while remaining easy to grow and low maintenance.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant bulbs in autumn for flowering the following spring or early summer.

• Choose a position in full sun for the best flowering display.

• Prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate waterlogged conditions.

• In heavy soils, improve drainage by incorporating grit before planting.

• Plant bulbs approximately 2–3 times their depth, usually around 10–15 cm deep.

• Space bulbs about 10–15 cm apart to allow for natural clump formation.

• Position with the pointed end facing upwards.

• Suitable for borders, gravel gardens, raised beds, and containers.

Alliums perform particularly well in sunny, open areas with good airflow.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water after planting to help settle the soil.

• During active growth in spring, keep soil moderately moist but not saturated.

• Once established, alliums are relatively drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, especially in winter.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser to support healthy growth.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen-rich feeds, which may encourage leafy growth over flowers.

• Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer.

• Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to help feed the bulb for the following year.

Proper aftercare ensures reliable repeat flowering each season.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Deadhead spent flowers if seed heads are not required.

• Alternatively, leave seed heads in place for added architectural interest.

• Remove yellowing foliage only once it has fully died back.

• Divide congested clumps in autumn if flowering reduces over time.

• Generally pest and disease resistant when planted in well-drained soil.

• Mulch lightly in autumn in colder areas, avoiding excessive moisture around bulbs.

• Suitable for naturalising in sunny borders or meadow-style planting.

With full sun, free-draining soil, and minimal maintenance, Allium ‘Magic’ will provide dependable colour and structure year after year.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
