The Alstroemeria 'Inca' Mix is a vibrant group of compact Peruvian Lilies specially bred for container growing and low-maintenance borders. Unlike traditional taller alstroemeria, the 'Inca' series forms neat, bushy clumps that flower reliably over several months, often from late spring into early autumn.

With bright, multicoloured flowers in combinations of pink, orange, red, purple, white, and yellow—often with speckled or striped throats—the 'Inca' mix is an excellent choice for small gardens, pots, balconies, and cut flowers.

Planting and Growing Conditions

Alstroemeria 'Inca' thrives in sunny, sheltered locations and well-drained soil. Once established, they are hardy and reliable, returning for many years with a long flowering season.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun to light partial shade

  • Requires at least 4–6 hours of sunlight per day for best flowering

• Soil Needs:

  • Grow in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter

  • Avoid very heavy or boggy soil—raise beds or plant in containers if needed

  • In pots, use peat-free multi-purpose compost with grit for drainage

• Planting Tips:

  • Plant in spring after frost risk has passed

  • Space about 30 cm apart to allow air flow and avoid overcrowding

  • Water well after planting and mulch to retain moisture

Watering, Feeding, and General Maintenance

The 'Inca' series is relatively low maintenance once established, but regular care boosts flower production and longevity.

• Watering:

  • Keep consistently moist, especially in containers

  • Avoid waterlogging—ensure good drainage

  • Water at the base to keep foliage dry and avoid mildew

• Feeding:

  • Feed monthly during the growing season with a high-potash liquid fertiliser (e.g., tomato feed)

  • Use a slow-release fertiliser in early spring for long-term support

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage repeat blooming

  • Pull (rather than cut) old stems at the base to stimulate new shoots

  • In autumn, allow foliage to die back naturally for winter protection

Containers and Border Use

The compact habit and vibrant colours of the 'Inca' mix make it perfect for a variety of uses, especially in smaller spaces.

• Best Uses:

  • Containers and patio pots as long-flowering highlights

  • Front of sunny borders and mixed beds

  • Excellent in cut flower arrangements—flowers can last up to two weeks in a vase

  • Good for pollinator gardens—attracts bees and butterflies

• Companion Plants:

  • Combine with Salvia, Lavender, Heuchera, Osteospermum, or compact grasses

  • Mix with silver foliage like Senecio 'Angel Wings' for contrast

Hardiness and Winter Care

• Hardiness:

  • Hardy to approximately -5°C to -10°C once established (RHS H4)

  • In colder areas, provide winter protection

• Winter Tips:

  • Mulch heavily in autumn to protect crowns from frost

  • In containers, move to a sheltered spot or unheated greenhouse

  • Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth starts

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
