Description and Characteristics

Alstroemeria Inticancha® 'Dark Purple' is a compact, floriferous hybrid from the Inticancha® series, bred specifically for long-lasting colour, dense mounding form, and exceptional container performance. This variety features deep, velvety purple blooms, often with slightly lighter inner petals or throat markings, offering a rich, luxurious colour ideal for modern gardens and patio displays.

Growing to just 25–35 cm in height and 30–40 cm in spread, ‘Dark Purple’ is perfect for small spaces, edging, balconies, and tabletop containers. From late spring until the first frost, it produces continuous waves of exotic, trumpet-shaped flowers on sturdy, upright stems. Like all Inticancha® selections, it combines ornamental beauty with practical garden performance and is also valued as a compact cut flower.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Alstroemeria 'Dark Purple' thrives with consistent care, including adequate light, moisture, and regular feeding. Its tuberous roots provide some drought tolerance once established, and its compact size makes it ideal for both beginners and experienced gardeners.

• Light Requirements:

  • Performs best in full sun to partial shade

  • In very hot regions, light afternoon shade helps protect flower colour and foliage

• Soil Requirements:

  • Prefers well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter

  • Best in neutral to slightly acidic pH

  • Avoid waterlogged or heavy clay soils; add grit or compost as needed

• Watering Needs:

  • Water regularly, especially during dry spells or when grown in containers

  • Keep soil evenly moist, but allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings

  • Do not let pots sit in water

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring

  • Supplement with liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during the growing season for continuous blooms

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Pull spent flower stems gently from the base (rather than cutting) to promote new flowering

  • Remove yellowing leaves to maintain plant health and tidiness

  • Light pruning in late autumn can prepare the plant for dormancy

• Winter Care:

  • In Zones 8–10, apply a protective mulch layer around the base in autumn

  • In colder climates, lift and store tubers in dry compost in a frost-free location

  • Container-grown plants can be overwintered in a cold frame, garage, or unheated greenhouse

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
