Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Anthemis ‘Tinpenny Sparkle’ thrives in full sun. It needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to produce abundant blooms and maintain a tidy, compact shape.

• Soil Preferences: Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Performs well in chalky, sandy, or loamy soils. Avoid heavy clay or waterlogged areas, especially in winter.

• Moisture Needs: Drought-tolerant once established, but moderate watering is needed in the first year and during extended dry periods. Overwatering or poorly drained soil can lead to root rot.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or early autumn, allowing time for root establishment before flowering or frosty conditions.

• Spacing: Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart to allow for mature spread and airflow, which helps prevent mildew and keeps plants bushy.

• Positioning Tips: Excellent for sunny borders, rock gardens, gravel beds, and wildlife-friendly plantings. Also suitable for containers in well-drained compost.

Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering: Water regularly during dry spells in the growing season, but allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering in containers.

• Feeding: Feed in spring with a balanced fertilizer, especially in poor soil. Too much fertilizer may result in excessive leafy growth and fewer flowers.

• Mulching: Apply a light mulch layer in spring to suppress weeds and retain moisture. Avoid heavy mulching near the crown to prevent rot.

• Deadheading: Deadhead spent flowers regularly to promote continuous blooming through summer and into early autumn. This also improves the plant’s appearance and reduces self-seeding.

• Pruning: Trim back after flowering or in late summer to maintain a compact shape and encourage a second flush of blooms. Cut back hard in late autumn or early spring to refresh growth.

• Pests and Diseases: Generally pest- and disease-free, but monitor for aphids or powdery mildew in damp or overcrowded conditions. Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering.

• Winter Care: Hardy in USDA Zones 6–9 (UK H5). In colder areas, apply a dry mulch or gravel layer in late autumn to protect the crown from frost and moisture.

Flowers, Foliage, and Garden Use

• Flowers: Produces bright white daisy-like flowers with yellow centres, appearing from late spring to early autumn. Blooms are abundant and long-lasting with regular deadheading.

• Foliage: Features finely divided, grey-green, feathery foliage that remains compact and airy. The soft texture contrasts well with bold-leaved or darker-foliage plants.

• Growth Habit and Size: Grows in a tidy, mounding form, reaching around 18–24 inches tall and wide. Ideal for the front or middle of a sunny border.

• Pollinator Friendly: Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. A great choice for pollinator-friendly gardens and naturalistic designs.

• Seasonal Interest: Offers long-season colour and remains neat in appearance when properly maintained. Excellent for keeping borders blooming through summer into autumn.

• Container Suitability: Works well in terracotta or ceramic pots on sunny patios. Ensure good drainage and water consistently in hot weather.

• Design Uses: Ideal for cottage gardens, coastal gardens, wildlife borders, or as part of a Mediterranean planting scheme. Pairs beautifully with plants like lavender, salvia, nepeta, achillea, and ornamental grasses.

• Companion Plants: Use with warm-season perennials for continuous colour. Complements bold colours such as red-hot pokers, gaillardia, or echinacea

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
