• Armeria maritima ‘Abbey Deep Rose’ is a compact, evergreen perennial commonly known as Sea Thrift.

• Produces rich deep rose-pink, globe-shaped flower heads held on slender stems above grassy foliage.

• Flowers from late spring into summer, often with repeat blooms if regularly deadheaded.

• Forms neat, low-growing mounds of narrow, dark green leaves.

• Typically reaches 15–25 cm in height, making it ideal for edging and front-of-border planting.

• Excellent for rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine beds, and coastal gardens.

• Highly tolerant of wind and salty conditions.

• Attractive to bees and other pollinators.

This variety is valued for its tidy habit, long flowering season, and resilience in exposed sites.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering and compact growth.

• Prefers light, well-drained soil and thrives in sandy or gravelly conditions.

• Does not tolerate heavy, poorly drained, or waterlogged soil.

• Improve heavy clay soils with grit before planting to enhance drainage.

• Ideal for raised beds, rockeries, edging paths, and coastal planting schemes.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the crown level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants approximately 20–30 cm apart to allow for natural clump development.

Armeria performs best in open, sunny areas with good air circulation.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are drought tolerant and require minimal watering.

• Avoid overwatering, especially in winter when soil is naturally wetter.

• Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil is very poor.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as rich soil may reduce flowering.

• Flowering typically begins in late spring and can continue through summer.

• Deadhead faded blooms promptly to encourage repeat flowering.

Consistent sunlight and excellent drainage are key to strong flowering performance.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Remove spent flower stems regularly to keep plants tidy and promote additional blooms.

• Lightly trim foliage after the main flowering flush if it becomes untidy.

• Avoid cutting back into the central crown of the plant.

• Divide clumps every few years in spring if plants become woody or overcrowded.

• Apply a light gravel mulch around the base to improve drainage and reduce excess moisture.

• Generally low maintenance and resistant to most pests and diseases.

• Evergreen foliage provides year-round structure in milder climates.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
