Planting Nova-Flore Bees Flower Mix (30 sqm)

• Product overview: Nova-Flore Bees is a pollinator-friendly flower seed mix specially designed to attract bees and other beneficial insects. It contains a wide range of nectar- and pollen-rich annual flowers that provide colour and food throughout the summer, covering approximately 30 square metres.

• When to sow:

  • Sow outdoors from April to May, once the risk of frost has passed and the soil begins to warm.

  • In mild conditions, sowing can continue into early June for later flowering.

• Site selection:

  • Choose a sunny, open position for best flowering and maximum bee activity.

  • Most species in the mix thrive in full sun and open air.

• Soil preparation:

  • Clear the area of weeds, stones, and debris.

  • Cultivate the soil lightly to a depth of 10–15cm and rake to create a fine, level seedbed.

  • Avoid adding fertiliser or compost, as wildflower and pollinator mixes perform best in low-fertility soils.

• Sowing method:

  • Mix the seed with dry sand to help achieve even distribution over a larger area.

  • Broadcast the seed evenly by hand or spreader.

  • Lightly rake so the seed is just covered with soil.

• Firming and watering:

  • Gently firm the soil using a board or the back of a rake.

  • Water lightly with a fine spray if conditions are dry.

Ongoing Care and Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Keep the soil lightly moist during germination, which usually takes 7–21 days depending on weather.

  • Once established, watering is rarely required except during prolonged drought.

• Thinning:

  • If seedlings emerge very densely, thin lightly to improve airflow and reduce competition.

  • A natural, uneven distribution is normal and desirable for pollinator planting.

• Feeding:

  • Do not apply fertiliser.

  • Added nutrients encourage leafy growth and grasses, reducing flower diversity and nectar production.

• Weed control:

  • Control weeds early while seedlings are small, using hand weeding or careful hoeing.

  • Once established, the flowers will suppress most weeds naturally.

• Pesticide use:

  • Avoid pesticides and herbicides entirely.

  • These products harm bees and beneficial insects and reduce the ecological value of the planting.

• Pests and problems:

  • Slugs and snails may damage young seedlings, particularly in damp weather.

  • Damage is usually limited and plants recover quickly as growth continues.

• Low maintenance approach:

  • Once established, the mix requires very little intervention, making it ideal for larger areas.

  • Nova-Flore Bees typically flowers from early summer through to autumn, depending on sowing time and weather conditions.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
