Planting Nova-Flore Bees Flower Mix (7 sqm)

• Product overview: Nova-Flore Bees is a specially formulated flower seed mix designed to attract and support bees and other pollinating insects. It contains a blend of nectar- and pollen-rich annual flowers that provide continuous colour and food sources, covering approximately 7 square metres.

• When to sow:

  • Sow outdoors from April to May, once the risk of frost has passed and soil temperatures begin to rise.

  • In favourable conditions, sowing can continue into early June for later flowering.

• Site selection:

  • Choose a sunny, open position for best results.

  • Pollinator-friendly flowers perform best in full sun.

• Soil preparation:

  • Remove all weeds, stones, and debris from the area.

  • Lightly cultivate the soil to a depth of 10–15cm and rake to create a fine, level seedbed.

  • Avoid adding fertiliser or rich compost, as wildflower mixes perform best in low-fertility soil.

• Sowing method:

  • Mix seed with dry sand to ensure even distribution.

  • Scatter seed evenly over the prepared area.

  • Lightly rake so seed is just covered by soil.

• Firming and watering:

  • Gently firm the soil using the back of a rake or by walking lightly over the area.

  • Water carefully with a fine spray if the soil is dry.

Ongoing Care and Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Keep soil lightly moist during germination, which usually takes 7–21 days depending on conditions.

  • Once established, water only during extended dry periods.

• Thinning:

  • If seedlings emerge very densely, thin lightly to improve airflow and plant strength.

  • A varied, natural density is ideal for pollinator mixes.

• Feeding:

  • Do not feed. Added nutrients reduce flower diversity and encourage leaf growth.

  • Low-nutrient conditions produce better flowering for bees.

• Weed control:

  • Remove weeds carefully while seedlings are small.

  • Once established, the mix naturally suppresses most weeds.

• Pesticide use:

  • Avoid pesticides and herbicides, as these harm bees and beneficial insects.

  • The mix supports natural balance and biodiversity.

• Pests and problems:

  • Slugs and snails may damage young seedlings, particularly in damp weather.

  • Losses are usually minimal and plants recover quickly.

Flowering, Bee Benefits, and Aftercare

• Flowering period:

  • Nova-Flore Bees typically flowers from early summer through to autumn, depending on sowing time and weather.

  • Different species bloom in succession, providing a continuous food source.

• Bee and pollinator value:

  • The mix attracts honeybees, bumblebees, solitary bees, butterflies, and hoverflies.

  • Increased pollinator activity benefits nearby fruit, vegetables, and ornamental plants.

• During flowering:

  • Allow plants to flower freely without cutting during the season.

  • Avoid disturbing the area to maximise nectar availability.

• End-of-season care:

  • Allow plants to set seed before clearing.

  • Cut and remove vegetation in late autumn once flowering has finished.

• Soil management:

  • Remove cut material to maintain low soil fertility, which supports flower diversity.

  • Do not mulch or fertilise after cutting.

• Reseeding:

  • Some flowers may self-seed lightly.

  • For reliable coverage and colour, re-sow fresh seed each spring.

  • Ideal for borders, wildlife areas, vegetable gardens, unused beds, and community spaces.

  • Works well as part of a wider pollinator-friendly planting scheme.

Standard Delivery is FREE on orders over €250*

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
