Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Performs best in full sun, which promotes the strongest growth and the most abundant flowers.

• Soil Preferences: Prefers well-drained soils—loamy, sandy, or slightly gravelly; avoid heavy clay that retains excess moisture.

• pH Range: Thrives in slightly acidic to neutral conditions (pH 6.0–7.0).

• Moisture Needs: Appreciates consistent moisture while establishing; becomes drought-tolerant once mature.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring after frost risk has passed, or in early autumn while the soil is still warm.

• Spacing: Allow 3–4 metres between plants to accommodate its mature spread and ensure adequate airflow.

• Positioning Tips: Excellent as a standalone feature tree or large shrub, for screening, or in mixed ornamental borders. Its cascading habit works beautifully near water features or large open spaces.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Water deeply and regularly during the first year to promote strong root establishment.

  • Mature plants require minimal supplemental water, except in prolonged drought.

• Feeding: Apply a low-phosphorus fertilizer in early spring and again after flowering to encourage healthy foliage and repeat blooms.

• Pruning:

  • Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a neat shape and encourage dense new growth.

  • Remove any damaged, dead, or crossing branches in late winter or early spring.

  • Avoid cutting into old wood, as regrowth can be slow.

• Mulching: Spread a 5–7 cm mulch of compost or bark in spring to help conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds—keep mulch away from the base of stems.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally pest-free, though occasionally scale insects or aphids may appear; treat promptly if necessary.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy in mild regions; protect young plants in colder areas with horticultural fleece during severe frost.

• Propagation: Can be propagated from semi-ripe cuttings in summer or from seed. Cuttings are recommended for producing identical plants to the parent.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
