Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Grows best in full sun, which ensures vibrant foliage colour and abundant flower production.

• Soil Preferences: Requires well-drained, acidic soils—ideal pH is 4.5–6.0. Avoid chalky or alkaline soils.

• Moisture Needs: Likes consistently moist soil but cannot tolerate waterlogging. Good drainage is essential.

• Planting Time: Plant in spring or early autumn so roots establish before summer heat or winter cold.

• Spacing: Allow 25–35 cm between plants for ground cover or mass planting.

• Positioning Tips: Perfect for rock gardens, borders, containers, and low-maintenance ground cover. Works beautifully in mass drifts for a striking seasonal display.

• Wind and Weather: Hardy in most UK and Irish climates; tolerates wind but benefits from shelter in very exposed sites.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

• Feeding: Use a slow-release ericaceous fertilizer in spring to encourage healthy foliage and flower development. Avoid lime-based feeds.

• Pruning:

  • Avoid cutting into old, woody stems as regrowth is slow from older wood.

• Mulching: Apply a layer of ericaceous compost, bark, or pine needles around the base in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally pest-free. Occasionally susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils—ensure proper drainage to prevent issues.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy, retaining structure and foliage through winter. In very cold areas, a light mulch can protect roots from frost heave.

• Container Growing: Choose pots with drainage holes and use a high-quality ericaceous compost. Refresh the top layer of compost annually and repot every 2–3 years.

• Flowering Season: Typically August to October, with flowers holding their form well into winter.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
