General Information

Crocuses belong to the iris family and are native to woodlands, meadows, and alpine regions of Europe and Asia. This mixed selection of species crocus is specially chosen for its reliability, charm, and early flowering period.

• Height & spread: Typically 7–10cm tall, forming small clumps.

• Flowers: Cup-shaped blooms in purple, white, lilac, and yellow; open wide in sunlight and close at night.

• Foliage: Narrow, grass-like leaves with a silvery midrib.

• Flowering season: Very early – usually February to March, sometimes even January in mild winters.

• Position: Best in full sun or light shade.

• Soil: Prefers well-drained soil; dislikes heavy, waterlogged ground.

• Hardiness: Fully hardy and ideal for naturalising in lawns, borders, and rock gardens.

Crocus Species Mixed Colours are easy to grow and require very little maintenance once established.

Planting

• When to plant: Plant bulbs (corms) in autumn, between September and November, before the first hard frosts.

• Depth & spacing: Plant 5–7cm deep and about 5–8cm apart in groups or drifts for a natural look.

• Where to plant: Choose a sunny spot in borders, lawns, containers, or under deciduous trees where spring light is plentiful.

• Soil preparation: Ensure soil is well-drained; add grit or sand if planting in heavy clay.

Watering & Feeding

• Water well after planting to help corms establish.

• Generally, crocuses thrive on natural rainfall and rarely need extra watering.

• Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to support next year’s flowering.

Aftercare

• Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering – this enables the corms to store energy for the following year.

• Avoid mowing lawns until crocus leaves have yellowed and died back.

• Over time, clumps will spread; if overcrowded, lift and divide corms in summer when dormant, then replant.

Protection

• Crocus bulbs are hardy, but protect pots from severe waterlogging in winter.

• Watch for squirrels or mice digging up corms – planting deeper or covering with mesh can help.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
