Description and Characteristics

Cytisus scoparius 'Luna', commonly known as Scotch Broom 'Luna', is a deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub famed for its cheerful pale yellow flowers and fine-textured green stems. It is a cultivar of the European native Cytisus scoparius, a hardy shrub prized for thriving in poor soils and producing a striking floral display in mid to late spring.

'Luna' offers a soft, lemon-yellow hue in contrast to the more common vivid reds and bicolours found in broom cultivars. Its pea-like flowers are carried along slender, upright-to-arching green stems that form a graceful, fountain-like silhouette. It typically reaches 1.2–1.5 metres in height with a similar spread, and is loved for its light, airy texture in the garden.

The plant has very sparse foliage, with small, narrow green leaves that are often dropped early, giving it a nearly leafless, green-stemmed appearance for much of the season. It’s perfect for dry, sunny borders, bank planting, and wildlife gardens, where its low-care nature and tolerance for poor conditions make it a top performer.

Cytisus scoparius 'Luna' is a tough and adaptable shrub, requiring very little care once established. It performs best in poor, free-draining soils and will sulk in rich or wet ground.

  • Once established, fully drought-tolerant

  • Do not overwater—soggy soil will cause root problems

  • No feeding required—fertile soil reduces flowering and causes leggy growth

  • Lightly prune after flowering to maintain compactness and encourage fresh growth

  • Trim back spent flowers by one-third; avoid cutting into old wood

  • Minimal pruning otherwise; dead wood can be removed in early spring

  • Withstands frost, wind, and coastal conditions

  • In very cold regions, mulch young plants in winter

• Propagation:

  • Easy to propagate via semi-ripe cuttings in summer

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
