Echinacea 'Mooodz'® Mix, commonly known as Coneflower, is a vibrant, compact selection of perennial Echinacea featuring a variety of intense flower colours such as pink, orange, red, and yellow. Known for its neat, upright habit and long-lasting blooms, this variety is ideal for containers, borders, and pollinator-friendly gardens.

• Best Location: Thrives in full sun, where it will produce the most blooms and develop strong, upright stems.

• Soil Type: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil. It can tolerate a range of soil types but struggles in heavy, poorly-drained conditions.

• Soil Preparation: Before planting, improve soil with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to enhance fertility and drainage.

• Planting Depth: Set the crown at or just slightly above soil level to prevent rot. Avoid burying the stem too deeply.

• Spacing: Space plants about 30 to 40 cm apart to allow for air circulation and mature growth.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or early autumn when the soil is warm but not waterlogged, allowing roots to establish before harsh weather.

• Container Growing: Ideal for pots. Choose a large container with drainage holes and use a loam-based compost mixed with grit to ensure proper drainage.

General Care and Maintenance

Echinacea 'Mooodz'® Mix is a robust, low-maintenance perennial that rewards gardeners with months of vibrant blooms and minimal effort. With the right care, it will flower abundantly from early summer to early autumn.

• Watering: Water regularly during the first season to establish a strong root system. Once established, the plant becomes drought-tolerant and only needs watering in prolonged dry spells.

• Feeding: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to support healthy foliage and flower development. Overfeeding is not necessary and can lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of blooms.

• Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming and a tidy appearance. Leave some seed heads later in the season to provide winter interest and food for birds.

• Mulching: Apply a mulch layer in spring to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep it clear of the crown to prevent rot.

• Flowering Period: Blooms typically appear from June through September, with vivid colours that stand out in any planting scheme.

• Wildlife Friendly: The flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making them excellent for wildlife and sensory gardens.

Seasonal Tasks and Long-Term Care

With minimal annual upkeep, Echinacea 'Mooodz'® Mix will return year after year, adding reliable colour and structure to the garden.

• Pruning: In autumn, once flowering is finished and the stems die back, cut the plant to about 5–10 cm above ground. Alternatively, leave dried seed heads over winter for ornamental interest and bird food.

• Dividing: Every 3 to 4 years, divide overcrowded clumps in spring or autumn to maintain vigour and encourage new flowering.

• Winter Care: Echinacea is fully hardy and doesn’t require winter protection in most climates. Good drainage is essential to prevent the crown from rotting during wet winters.

• Pests and Diseases: Generally trouble-free, though aphids and slugs may occasionally appear on young shoots. Watch for signs of crown rot if soil is poorly drained.

• Companion Planting: Looks stunning alongside grasses, rudbeckias, salvias, and lavender. Its sturdy stems mean it rarely needs staking.

• Growth Habit: Forms a neat clump around 30–50 cm tall, making it perfect for front to mid-border positions or mixed container displays.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
