Planting and Positioning

The Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Aureum’ is remarkably adaptable, but giving it the right start helps it grow strong and vibrant. With the correct pot, soil, and placement, it will quickly establish itself and thrive year-round.

Choosing the Right Pot

• Size: Choose a pot just one size larger than the current one to avoid overwatering issues.

• Drainage: Always ensure your pot has drainage holes—Pothos dislike sitting in soggy soil.

• Style: Works beautifully in hanging planters, tall pots, or decorative ceramic containers.

Soil Requirements

• Prefers a light, free-draining potting mix designed for houseplants.

• You can make your own blend using equal parts compost, perlite, and coco coir or bark chips.

• Avoid compacted or clay-heavy soil which retains too much water.

Planting Steps

1. Remove your plant gently from its nursery pot, teasing out the roots if they’re dense.

2. Place it in the new pot so the top of the root ball sits about 2–3cm below the rim.

3. Fill around with fresh compost, firming lightly.

4. Water well, then allow any excess to drain completely before placing it back in position.

Position and Light

• Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its golden variegation.

• Tolerates lower light but leaves may turn more green.

• Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the foliage.

• Perfect for living rooms, bathrooms, or offices with filtered light.

Care and Maintenance

Golden Pothos are famously low-fuss, but a little regular attention ensures a full, healthy plant that continues to impress.

Watering

• Water only when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry to the touch.

• In warmer months, water more frequently; in winter, reduce to every couple of weeks.

• Empty saucers or cachepots after watering to prevent root rot.

Feeding

• Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer.

• Stop feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Pruning and Propagation

• Trim back long stems to encourage bushier growth and maintain shape.

• Cuttings can be easily propagated—just place trimmed stems in water until roots form, then pot into compost.

• Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain a glossy look.

Common Issues

• Yellowing leaves: Usually caused by overwatering; allow soil to dry before the next watering.

• Pale or green-only leaves: Indicates low light; move to a brighter spot.

• Leggy growth: Trim and propagate to encourage fullness.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
