Bellis perennis, commonly known as the English Daisy, is a charming, compact flowering plant widely used for early-season colour. This mixed selection typically includes cheerful shades of red, pink, and white, with double or semi-double pompon-style blooms. Flowering from early spring and often into early summer, Bellis is ideal for edging, bedding, mixed planters, window boxes, and cottage-style gardens. Hardy, long-flowering, and easy to maintain, it is a key plant for brightening cool-season displays.

Planting & Position

• Light:

  • Thrives in full sun to partial shade.

  • Best flower production occurs in sunny locations, though plants remain healthy in light shade.

• Soil:

  • Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil.

  • Will tolerate heavier soils if drainage is improved with compost or grit.

  • In containers, use a high-quality multi-purpose bedding compost.

• Spacing:

  • Plant 15–20 cm apart for full, colourful carpets of blooms.

• Planting time:

  • Plant in autumn for early-spring flowering or in spring for summer colour.

Care & Maintenance

Bellis perennis is low maintenance and well-suited to cooler climates.

• Watering:

  • Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells.

  • Avoid waterlogging, particularly in containers.

• Feeding:

  • Feed every 2–3 weeks during the flowering season with a balanced liquid fertiliser to extend bloom time.

  • A slow-release fertiliser mixed into the compost at planting also performs well.

• Deadheading:

  • Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage more blooms and maintain a tidy appearance.

• Trimming:

  • If growth becomes straggly, lightly trim to encourage fresh, compact growth.

• Temperature:

  • Fully hardy and tolerant of spring frosts.

  • Performs best in cool weather; flowering may pause during hot summers.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
