Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance
-
Watering:
-
Water regularly during establishment, reducing frequency once established.
-
During hot, dry spells, maintain consistent moisture without overwatering.
-
-
Feeding: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring and midsummer to encourage healthy growth and flowering.
-
Pruning:
-
Lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushiness.
-
Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as regrowth may be slow.
-
-
Mulching: Apply a 5 cm layer of mulch around the base in spring to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds—keep mulch away from the stem.
-
Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally pest-free; may occasionally attract scale insects or aphids, treatable with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap.
-
Winter Care: In colder areas, protect roots with mulch and consider fleece or shelter for young plants during frost.
-
Weed Control: Keep surrounding soil weed-free to reduce competition for nutrients and water.
-
Longevity: With proper care, plants provide many years of seasonal beauty and fragrance.
