• Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’ is a long-flowering, evergreen perennial wallflower known for its soft mauve-purple blooms.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering and compact growth.

• Prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate winter waterlogging.

• Thrives in light, sandy, or moderately fertile soils.

• Improve heavy soils with grit before planting to enhance drainage.

• Ideal for borders, raised beds, and gravel gardens.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the plant so the crown sits level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants 50–60 cm apart to allow for bushy growth.

Erysimum performs best in sunny, open sites with good airflow.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are moderately drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, especially during winter months.

• Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser to encourage strong flowering.

• A second light feed in mid-summer can help extend the flowering period.

• Avoid excessive nitrogen-rich fertilisers, which may encourage leafy growth over flowers.

• Flowering typically begins in spring and can continue well into autumn.

• Regular deadheading helps maintain a tidy appearance and prolong blooming.

Full sun and light feeding promote abundant, long-lasting flowers.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Trim back lightly after the first main flush of flowers to encourage fresh growth and more blooms.

• Avoid cutting back into old woody stems, as regrowth may be limited.

• Remove any dead or damaged stems as needed.

• Replace plants every few years if they become woody or less vigorous.

• Apply a light mulch in spring, keeping it away from the crown to prevent rot.

• Generally low maintenance and pest resistant in suitable conditions.

• May need protection in severe winters in colder regions.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
