Watering, Feeding, and General Maintenance
Watering
-
Water regularly during the first season to help establish roots
-
Likes consistently moist soil, especially during flowering
-
Mature plants tolerate short dry spells, but perform best with occasional watering during prolonged drought
Feeding
-
Feed in spring with a balanced general-purpose fertiliser
-
Mulch annually with well-rotted compost to improve moisture retention and soil structure
-
Avoid overfeeding, as this can reduce flowering and increase leaf growth
Pruning and Seasonal Care
-
Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming
-
After flowering, plants can be cut back by half to encourage fresh foliage and potentially a second flush of flowers
-
In autumn or early spring, remove any dead or decaying foliage
-
Divide every 3–4 years to maintain health and control spread
