Overview & Features

• Helianthemum ‘Ben Fhada’ is a low-growing evergreen perennial commonly known as a Rock Rose.

• Produces masses of bright golden-yellow flowers with contrasting orange centres.

• Blooms freely in late spring to early summer, often creating a carpet of colour.

• Forms neat, spreading mats of small, grey-green foliage.

• Typically grows to 15–20 cm in height, spreading up to 40 cm or more.

• Ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, raised beds, and the front of sunny borders.

• Attractive to bees and pollinators.

• Provides excellent ground cover in dry, sunny locations.

This variety is valued for its vivid flower colour and compact, spreading habit.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering performance.

• Prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate winter waterlogging.

• Thrives in sandy, gritty, or poor soils.

• Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand before planting.

• Ideal for rockeries, alpine beds, slopes, and wall edges.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the crown level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants approximately 30–40 cm apart to allow for spreading.

Helianthemum performs best in sunny, open sites with excellent drainage.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are drought tolerant and require minimal watering.

• Avoid overwatering, especially in winter months.

• Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil is very poor.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as rich soil may reduce flowering.

• Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer.

• Deadheading can encourage a light second flush of blooms.

Full sun and free-draining soil are essential for reliable flowering.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Trim back lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth.

• Avoid cutting into older woody stems, as regrowth may be limited.

• Remove any dead or damaged growth as needed.

• Divide or replace plants every few years if they become woody or sparse.

• Apply a light gravel mulch to improve drainage and reduce moisture around the crown.

• Generally low maintenance and pest resistant when grown in suitable conditions.

• Evergreen foliage provides year-round structure in milder climates.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
