Sowing and Planting Instructions

• Seed Type: Certified organic Italian Giant parsley, known for its robust flavour, large leaves, and vigorous growth.

• When to Sow Indoors: Start seeds indoors from February to April in cool climates. Sow in seed trays or small pots filled with good quality, peat-free seed compost.

• When to Sow Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared garden soil or raised beds from April to August once the risk of frost has passed and soil has warmed.

• Germination Tip: Parsley seeds can be slow to germinate—typically taking 14–28 days. Soaking seeds overnight before sowing can help speed up germination.

• Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep and cover lightly with compost or fine soil. Firm gently and water well.

• Spacing: Thin seedlings to 20–30 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart for optimal growth and airflow.

• Light and Position: Prefers a sunny position but will tolerate partial shade. Ideal for kitchen gardens, pots, and window boxes.

Growing, Care, and Maintenance

• Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely as this can cause plants to bolt (flower prematurely).

• Feeding: Apply a balanced organic liquid feed every 3–4 weeks during the growing season to encourage healthy foliage growth.

• Mulching: Use an organic mulch such as compost or leaf mould to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and improve soil structure.

• Weeding: Weed regularly around plants to prevent competition for water and nutrients. Take care not to disturb the shallow roots.

• Pests and Diseases: Generally pest-free but may occasionally be affected by carrot fly or aphids. Use fine mesh netting to deter carrot fly and encourage beneficial insects for natural pest control.

• Harvesting: Begin harvesting 8–12 weeks after sowing once plants are well established. Cut outer leaves first, allowing inner leaves to continue growing for multiple harvests.

• Cut-and-Come-Again: Regular picking encourages fresh growth and prolongs the harvest season.

• Overwintering: Italian Giant parsley is a biennial—it produces leaves in its first year and flowers in the second. In mild climates, it may overwinter with some protection (mulch or fleece).

Culinary and Ornamental Value

• Flavour Profile: Italian Giant parsley has a rich, robust, and slightly sweet flavour that holds up well in cooking. The flat, broad leaves have a softer texture than curly parsley.

• Culinary Uses:

  • Excellent in soups, stews, sauces, salads, and pasta dishes.

  • A key ingredient in gremolata, chimichurri, and tabbouleh.

  • Use fresh for the brightest flavour or chop and freeze for later use.

• Nutritional Value: Rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as iron and antioxidants. Adds both flavour and nutrition to meals.

• Ornamental Qualities: The lush, green foliage adds texture and colour to herb beds, containers, and mixed borders.

• Companion Planting: Pairs well with tomatoes, carrots, and chives. Helps deter pests and attracts beneficial insects like hoverflies.

• Garden Design Use: Works well as a border edging plant in vegetable or ornamental beds, combining beauty with productivity.

• Yield: A few plants can provide an abundant supply of fresh parsley over many months.

• Sustainability Note: Growing your own organic parsley reduces reliance on packaged supermarket herbs and supports a healthy, pollinator-friendly garden.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
