Description and Characteristics

Heuchera 'Boysenberry' is a richly coloured evergreen perennial known for its vibrant, seasonally shifting foliage and compact growth habit. Named after the deep, reddish-purple hue of boysenberries, this variety features rounded, lobed leaves in shades of plum, wine, and black cherry, often accented by a subtle silver frosting or veining depending on light and maturity.

During late spring and early summer, the plant sends up slender flower spikes with delicate white to pale pink bell-shaped flowers that rise elegantly above the foliage. Though attractive, the flowers are secondary to the foliage, which is the true highlight—providing colour and texture in borders, containers, and shaded beds all year round.

‘Boysenberry’ typically forms a tidy, dense mound, growing to about 25–30 cm in height and 35–40 cm in spread, with flower stems rising to 40–50 cm. It’s especially effective when planted in drifts, used as edging, or featured in mixed containers.

• Light Requirements:

  • Performs best in partial shade or dappled sunlight

  • Tolerates full sun in cooler climates, but colour may fade or leaves scorch in intense afternoon sun

  • Avoid deep, heavy shade for best colour and density

• Soil Preferences:

  • Thrives in well-drained, humus-rich soil

  • Prefers neutral to slightly acidic pH

  • In heavy soils, add grit or compost to improve drainage

• Watering Needs:

  • Keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry spells or in containers

  • Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can cause crown rot

  • Container plants require more frequent watering

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring

  • In pots, feed monthly with a liquid fertiliser during the growing season

• Pruning and Maintenance:

  • Remove tired or damaged foliage in early spring to refresh growth

  • Deadhead flower spikes after blooming to tidy the plant

  • Divide every 3–4 years in spring or autumn to rejuvenate and propagate

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 4–9 (RHS H5–H6)

  • Evergreen in mild climates; semi-evergreen in colder zones

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
