• Plant Type: Deciduous flowering shrub

• Growth Habit: Upright and bushy, forming a strong, well-branched framework that typically reaches 2–2.5 metres in height and spread.

• Foliage: Mid-green, ovate leaves that provide a fresh backdrop to the vibrant blooms.

• Flowers: Large conical panicles, up to 30 cm long, emerge in a luminous lime-green shade in midsummer, gradually maturing to creamy white, then blush pink in autumn.

• Flowering Period: July to September, with colour changes offering a long season of interest.

• Seasonal Interest: Striking flower colour progression, lush summer foliage, and dried blooms providing winter texture if left on the plant.

• Garden Uses: Ideal for mixed borders, hedging, feature planting, large containers, and cut flower arrangements (both fresh and dried).

Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Thrives in full sun to partial shade; best flower colour and size achieved with at least 4–6 hours of sunlight per day.

• Soil Preferences: Fertile, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.

• pH Range: Neutral to slightly acidic (pH 5.5–7.0). Flower colour in H. paniculata is not affected by soil pH.

• Moisture Needs: Requires consistent moisture, especially during hot, dry periods; avoid prolonged drought.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or autumn, allowing roots to establish before the extremes of summer or winter.

• Spacing: Allow 1.5–2.5 metres between plants, depending on desired growth and use.

• Shelter Needs: Plant in a sheltered position to protect large flower heads from wind damage.

• Companion Planting: Pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, roses, echinacea, sedum, and late-summer perennials.

• Container Growing: Can be grown in large containers; use a loam-based compost and ensure excellent drainage.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Water deeply once or twice weekly during dry spells.

  • Container plants may need daily watering in hot weather.

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring.

  • Use a high-potash liquid feed every 4–6 weeks during the flowering season to enhance bloom quality.

• Pruning:

  • Prune annually in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

  • Cut stems back to a strong pair of buds about one-third from the base to encourage vigorous flowering.

• Mulching: Add a 5–8 cm mulch layer of compost or well-rotted manure in spring to retain soil moisture and improve fertility.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally trouble-free; may occasionally suffer from aphids or mildew—treat promptly if required.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy; mulch around the base in colder regions for root protection.

• Weed Control: Keep the root zone free of weeds to minimise competition for nutrients and water.

• Longevity: With minimal but consistent care, ‘Limelight’ will produce spectacular blooms year after year, becoming a standout feature in any garden.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
