About Layer Planting White

Layer Planting White – 25 Bulbs is a coordinated collection of spring-flowering bulbs designed to create an elegant white-themed display over an extended flowering period.

The collection is ideal for layer or “bulb lasagne” planting, where different types and sizes of bulbs are planted at different depths in the same container. The bulbs then emerge and flower in succession, creating multiple layers of fresh white spring colour from a single pot.

Each pack contains 25 bulbs, making it ideal for patio containers, doorstep displays and smaller garden spaces.

How to Layer Plant the Bulbs

Choose a deep container with plenty of drainage holes.

• Add a layer of good-quality, free-draining compost to the bottom.
• Plant the largest bulbs in the lowest layer, usually around 15–20cm deep.
• Cover with approximately 5cm of compost.
• Plant the medium-sized bulbs as the second layer.
• Cover with another layer of compost.
• Plant the smallest bulbs closest to the surface, usually around 5–8cm deep.
• Bulbs can be positioned fairly close together but should not be touching.
• Place bulbs with their pointed ends facing upwards.
• Cover with compost and water thoroughly.

The shoots will naturally find their way around the bulbs planted above them.

Planting Guide

• Plant in autumn, ideally from September to December.
• Position in full sun or light partial shade.
• Use fertile, free-draining compost or garden soil.
• Containers must have adequate drainage holes.
• Adding horticultural grit can improve drainage.
• Water thoroughly immediately after planting.
• Keep containers outdoors throughout winter.
• Avoid allowing the compost to become permanently waterlogged.

Care & Maintenance

Layer-planted bulbs require very little maintenance.

• Keep the compost lightly moist during prolonged dry periods.
• Increase watering once active growth begins in spring.
• Container-grown bulbs may need regular watering during warm spring weather.
• A high-potash feed can be applied once plants are actively growing.
• Deadhead individual flowers as they fade.
• Leave all healthy foliage in place after flowering.

Common Problems

• Waterlogging is the main risk with layered bulb containers.
• Ensure drainage holes remain open throughout winter.

• Squirrels and other animals can occasionally disturb freshly planted pots.
• Avoid allowing containers to dry out completely once spring growth begins.
• Removing foliage too early can weaken bulbs and reduce future flowering.

Standard Delivery is FREE on orders over €250*

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via DPD Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis. 

* Only mainland Ireland addresses qualify for free delivery.
 

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
