Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Prefers full sun for maximum flowering and strong growth. Can tolerate very light shade but blooms best in open, bright conditions.

• Soil Preferences: Grows best in well-drained sandy or loamy soils; dislikes heavy clay or waterlogged conditions.

• pH Range: Performs well in slightly acidic to neutral soils (pH 5.5–7.0).

• Moisture Needs: Needs regular moisture during establishment but becomes drought-tolerant once mature. Avoid overwatering.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or early autumn to allow root development before extreme heat or frost.

• Spacing: Space plants 80 cm–1 metre apart for hedging or grouped planting to allow for mature spread.

• Positioning Tips: Ideal for coastal gardens, mixed shrub borders, rockeries, and Mediterranean-style landscapes.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Water regularly during the first growing season to encourage deep root growth.

  • Once established, water only during extended dry spells.

  • In containers, water more frequently during hot weather.

• Feeding: Use a low-phosphorus fertilizer in spring, as Leptospermum is sensitive to high phosphorus levels.

• Pruning:

  • Lightly trim immediately after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth.

  • Avoid cutting into old wood, as recovery is slow.

• Mulching: Apply a 5 cm mulch layer of compost, bark, or gravel in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Keep mulch away from the base of stems.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally pest-free, but root rot can occur in poorly drained soil. Ensure good drainage.

• Winter Care: Hardy to mild frost; in colder climates, protect young plants with fleece or move container plants to sheltered spots.

• Weed Control: Keep the root zone clear of competing weeds for best results.

• Foliage: Fine, aromatic, evergreen foliage with a fresh green tone that provides texture year-round.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
