Lomandra longifolia 'Miner's Gold', commonly known as Mat Rush, is a striking evergreen, grass-like perennial valued for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage and graceful, arching habit. This low-maintenance Australian native provides year-round colour and texture, making it an excellent choice for contemporary gardens, gravel gardens and mass planting. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and thrives in a wide range of growing conditions.

Growing to approximately 50–60cm tall with a spread of 60–90cm, 'Miner's Gold' forms a dense, fountain-shaped clump of fine, strap-like foliage. Small, creamy-yellow flowers may appear in summer, although the colourful foliage is its main ornamental feature. It is ideal for adding contrast to borders, containers and low-maintenance landscapes.

Planting Guide

• Plant in full sun or partial shade.
• Choose a position with well-drained soil.
• Suitable for sandy, loam and chalky soils.
• Improve heavy soils with horticultural grit if drainage is poor.
• Dig a planting hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth.
• Position the plant so the crown sits level with the surrounding soil.
• Backfill with soil, firm gently and water thoroughly.
• Apply a light mulch around the base, keeping it away from the crown.
• Space plants approximately 60–90cm apart.

Care & Maintenance

Lomandra 'Miner's Gold' is extremely easy to care for once established.

• Water regularly during the first growing season.
• Once established, water only during prolonged dry spells.
• Feed in spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser if required.
• Avoid prolonged waterlogging, especially during winter.
• Remove weeds from around the base while plants establish.
• Container-grown plants should be watered more regularly during hot weather.
• Apply a light mulch in spring to help retain soil moisture.

Pruning

Very little pruning is required.

• Remove any dead or damaged leaves as needed.
• Comb through the foliage by hand or with a rake to remove old leaves.
• Every few years, trim back untidy foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
• Avoid cutting into the centre of the crown.
• Divide mature clumps in spring if additional plants are required.

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
