Pollinator Planter Kit – Orange Tulips & Fritillaria – Pack of 15 Bulbs

About the Pollinator Planter Kit

The Pollinator Planter Kit – Tulip & Fritillaria Orange is a coordinated collection of 15 spring-flowering bulbs designed to create a warm, vibrant display while providing flowers for bees and other spring pollinators.

The combination of bold orange Tulips and distinctive Fritillaria creates an attractive contrast of flower shapes and heights. It is particularly effective in patio pots and containers, where the bulbs can be planted in layers to produce a colourful spring display from a relatively small space.

Plant the bulbs in autumn for flowers the following spring.

Planting Guide

  • Plant in autumn, ideally from September to December.
  • Choose a position in full sun or light partial shade.
  • Prefers fertile, well-drained soil or compost.
  • Avoid areas that remain waterlogged during winter.
  • Plant larger Tulip bulbs approximately 10–15cm deep.
  • Plant Fritillaria according to bulb size, generally around 8–12cm deep.
  • Position bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards where clearly visible.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.
  • Plant the bulbs together for the strongest coordinated display.

Planting in a Container

This kit is ideal for layer or “bulb lasagne” planting.

  • Choose a reasonably deep container with good drainage holes.
  • Add a layer of free-draining multipurpose compost.
  • Position the larger bulbs towards the bottom of the container.
  • Cover with approximately 5cm of compost.
  • Position the smaller bulbs in the layer above.
  • Stagger the bulbs so they are not positioned directly on top of one another.
  • Bulbs can be planted fairly close together but should not touch.
  • Cover with compost and water thoroughly.
  • Keep the container outdoors throughout winter.

Care & Maintenance

Once planted, the bulbs require very little maintenance.

  • Keep the compost lightly moist during prolonged dry weather.
  • Increase watering when active growth begins in spring.
  • Container-grown bulbs should never be left permanently standing in water.
  • A high-potash feed can be applied once foliage is actively growing.
  • Remove faded flowers if desired.
  • Leave healthy foliage in place after flowering.
  • Allow leaves to yellow and die back naturally.

Benefits for Pollinators

Spring-flowering bulbs provide useful food sources at a time when fewer plants may be in bloom.

  • Fritillaria flowers can provide nectar for early pollinating insects.
  • Planting bulbs together creates a concentrated area of spring flowers.
  • Different flowering times can help extend the overall period of interest.
  • Bulbs work particularly well alongside other pollinator-friendly spring plants.

Ideal Uses in the Garden

  • Pollinator-friendly containers
  • Patio pots
  • Doorstep displays
  • Mixed spring borders
  • Courtyard gardens
  • Cottage gardens
  • Raised beds
  • Small gardens
  • Contemporary containers
  • Layered bulb displays

The orange flowers combine particularly well with Muscari, Crocus, Narcissus, Violas, Primroses and contrasting blue or purple spring flowers.

Seasonal Interest

  • Bulbs remain dormant underground during winter.
  • Fresh foliage emerges as temperatures rise.
  • Different bulb varieties provide contrasting flower shapes and heights.
  • Warm orange shades create a bold spring display.
  • Flowers provide food for visiting bees and other pollinating insects.

After Flowering

  • Remove faded Tulip flower heads once flowering has finished.
  • Allow Fritillaria flowers to fade naturally or remove spent flowers if preferred.
  • Do not cut off green foliage immediately after flowering.
  • Allow the leaves to yellow and die back naturally.
  • This enables the bulbs to store energy for future growth.
  • Suitable bulbs can be left in well-drained ground or replanted into the garden after the container display finishes.

Common Problems

  • Waterlogging is one of the main causes of bulb failure.
  • Ensure containers have unrestricted drainage.
  • Slugs and snails may damage emerging foliage.
  • Squirrels and other animals may occasionally disturb newly planted bulbs.
  • Removing foliage too early can weaken the bulbs.
  • Fritillaria bulbs can be susceptible to rot if planted in persistently wet conditions.

With its vibrant orange Tulips, distinctive Fritillaria and pollinator-friendly spring flowers, the Pollinator Planter Kit – Tulip & Fritillaria Orange, 15 Bulbs is an easy way to create a colourful spring display. Perfect for patio containers and smaller gardens, it combines strong ornamental appeal with a useful source of food for visiting spring pollinators
