Narcissus 'Jetfire' – Pack of 20 Bulbs – Planting & Care Guide

About Narcissus 'Jetfire'

Narcissus 'Jetfire' is a compact, early-flowering Cyclamineus Daffodil renowned for its vivid golden-yellow petals and bright orange trumpet. The petals sweep backwards away from the trumpet, giving each flower a distinctive, windswept appearance.

Flowering in early spring, 'Jetfire' is particularly useful for bringing strong colour to gardens after winter. Its compact size makes it excellent for patio containers, border edges, rockeries and naturalised planting.

The flowers are also useful to early bees and other pollinating insects when relatively few other garden plants are in bloom.

Each promotional pack contains 20 bulbs, providing enough for a substantial group or several smaller displays.

Planting Guide

  • Plant in autumn, ideally from September to November.
  • Choose a position in full sun or partial shade.
  • Prefers fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Avoid areas that remain permanently waterlogged.
  • Plant bulbs approximately 10–15cm deep, or around 2–3 times the height of the bulb.
  • Position bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
  • Space approximately 8–10cm apart.
  • Plant in groups or informal drifts for the strongest effect.
  • Water after planting if the soil is particularly dry.

Planting in Containers

The compact growth of 'Jetfire' makes it an excellent container Daffodil.

  • Choose a pot with adequate drainage holes.
  • Use good-quality, free-draining multipurpose compost.
  • Plant bulbs fairly close together without allowing them to touch.
  • Cover with approximately 10cm of compost.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.
  • Keep containers outdoors throughout winter.
  • Position in full sun or partial shade.
  • Ensure excess winter rain can drain freely.

For a longer display, combine with Crocus, Muscari, Snowdrops and early Tulips.

Care & Maintenance

Narcissus 'Jetfire' is exceptionally easy to maintain.

  • Water during prolonged dry periods while actively growing.
  • Container-grown bulbs require more regular watering.
  • Feed with a high-potash fertiliser after flowering if required.
  • Deadhead faded flowers before seed develops.
  • Do not remove the green foliage after flowering.
  • Allow leaves to yellow and die back naturally.
  • Established bulbs can remain undisturbed for many years.

  • Early flowers can provide food for visiting pollinating insects.
  • Established bulbs can multiply to produce larger displays over time.

After Flowering

  • Remove faded flower heads once flowering finishes.
  • Leave all green foliage intact.
  • Allow leaves to naturally yellow and die back for at least six weeks after flowering.
  • Avoid tying or knotting the foliage.
  • Once completely yellow, the leaves can be removed.
  • Congested clumps can be lifted and divided while dormant.

Common Problems

Narcissus 'Jetfire' is generally extremely reliable.

  • Waterlogging can cause bulbs to rot.
  • Slugs and snails may occasionally damage emerging shoots.
  • Narcissus bulb fly can sometimes affect bulbs.
  • Poor flowering may occur if established clumps become overcrowded.
  • Removing foliage prematurely can reduce flowering the following spring.
  • Planting in very deep shade may result in weaker flowering.

With its golden-yellow swept-back petals, vivid orange trumpet and compact early-flowering habit, Narcissus 'Jetfire' – Pack of 20 Bulbs is an outstanding choice for Irish gardens. Plant generously in autumn for a brilliant burst of colour from late winter into early spring, with established bulbs returning reliably year after year
