Overview and Features

Senecio ‘Angel Wings’ is a highly ornamental, evergreen perennial prized for its striking, silver-white foliage that is both soft and velvety to the touch. Its bold texture and colour make it a standout feature in containers, borders, or coastal gardens. This plant is grown primarily for its foliage, as flowers are rare and often removed to maintain the leaf display.

Originating from Patagonia, ‘Angel Wings’ is bred for sunny, well-drained positions, and performs exceptionally well in containers and dry borders. Its unique appearance works well in modern, Mediterranean, and drought-tolerant schemes.

• Grows to 30–45 cm tall and wide

• Leaves are broad, ruffled, silvery-white, and extremely tactile

• Fast-growing and dramatic as a focal or contrast plant

• Mostly grown for foliage; any flowers are often trimmed off

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Senecio ‘Angel Wings’ is low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and enjoys full sun and free-draining soils.

• Light Requirements:

  • Thrives in full sun

  • Can tolerate light partial shade, but leaf colour may fade

• Soil Preferences:

  • Prefers well-drained soil, including sandy or gritty types

  • Does not tolerate waterlogged or heavy clay soils

• Watering:

  • Water regularly until established

  • Once mature, it is highly drought-tolerant

  • In containers, ensure drainage holes are clear

• Feeding:

  • Feed sparingly; a light application of balanced fertiliser in spring is sufficient

  • Overfeeding can lead to weak, leggy growth

• Pruning and Maintenance:

  • Trim off any flower stalks to maintain neat appearance

  • Remove damaged or lower leaves to keep plant tidy

  • Can be cut back lightly in spring to encourage fresh growth

Seasonal Care and Design Uses

‘Angel Wings’ adds unique colour and texture year-round in milder climates, and is especially suited to summer displays and mixed foliage combinations.

  • Protect with fleece or bring indoors during hard frosts

  • In colder areas, grow as a seasonal container plant

• Container Use:

  • Use peat-free compost with added grit or perlite

• Garden Use:

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
