Planting & Positioning

• Thymus citriodorus ‘Silver Queen’ is a compact, evergreen lemon-scented thyme with attractive silver-edged green leaves.

• Ideal for rockeries, herb gardens, gravel beds, borders, and container planting.

• Best planted in full sun to maintain strong flavour and bright variegation.

• Will tolerate light partial shade, though growth may be less compact.

• Prefers well-drained, light soil and does not tolerate waterlogged conditions.

• In heavy clay soils, improve drainage with grit or plant in raised beds.

• Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and no deeper than the pot.

• Position the plant so the top of the root ball sits level with the soil surface.

• Backfill with free-draining soil, firm gently, and water lightly after planting.

• Space plants adequately to allow air circulation and spreading growth.

‘Silver Queen’ forms a low, spreading mat and works well at the front of borders or cascading gently over edges.

Watering, Feeding & General Care

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish roots.

• Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

• Once established, this thyme is drought tolerant and requires minimal watering.

• Avoid overwatering, particularly in autumn and winter.

• Container-grown plants require occasional watering during warm spells but must have excellent drainage.

• Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser if desired.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as rich soil can reduce flavour intensity and cause soft growth.

• Mulch lightly with gravel to help keep foliage dry and reduce weed growth.

The lemon-scented leaves can be harvested throughout the year and are ideal for culinary use in fish, poultry, and vegetable dishes.

Pruning, Maintenance & Seasonal Interest

• Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth.

• Avoid cutting back into old woody stems, as regrowth may be limited.

• Remove any dead or damaged growth in spring.

• In colder areas, ensure soil drains freely through winter to prevent root rot.

• ‘Silver Queen’ produces small pale pink to lilac flowers in summer that attract bees and pollinators.

• Refresh plants every few years if they become woody or sparse.

• Generally pest and disease resistant when grown in the right conditions.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
