Overview & Features

• Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ is a compact, semi-evergreen shrub celebrated for its vibrant, multi-coloured foliage.

• Leaves emerge bright green with golden-yellow margins and develop orange and red tones in autumn and winter.

• Produces small, lightly fragrant white flowers with a soft pink blush from summer into autumn.

• Forms a neat, low-growing mound with a spreading habit.

• Typically grows 60–90 cm tall and up to 1 metre wide.

• Excellent for borders, low hedging, containers, and mixed planting schemes.

• Provides year-round interest through both foliage and flowers.

• Attractive to bees and other pollinators.

This variety is prized for its changing leaf colour and long flowering season.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the brightest foliage colour and best flowering.

• Tolerates light partial shade, though colours may be less intense.

• Prefers well-drained soil and adapts to most soil types.

• Avoid heavy, waterlogged conditions, particularly in winter.

• Improve soil with compost before planting to support healthy growth.

• Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball and the same depth.

• Plant at the same depth as it was in the pot and firm gently.

• Space plants 60–90 cm apart for ground cover or edging.

Abelia performs well in sheltered locations but tolerates light exposure.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots.

• Once established, plants are moderately drought tolerant.

• Avoid excessive watering, especially in colder months.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to encourage fresh growth.

• Apply compost annually to maintain soil fertility.

• Flowering typically begins in early to mid-summer and continues into autumn.

• Full sun promotes heavier flowering and stronger leaf colour.

Consistent moisture during dry spells supports prolonged blooming.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Lightly prune in early spring to maintain a compact shape.

• Remove any dead, damaged, or weak stems as needed.

• Can be cut back more firmly if rejuvenation is required.

• Mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

• Generally low maintenance and resistant to most pests and diseases.

• Protect young plants from severe frost in colder areas.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
