Description and Characteristics

Agapanthus 'Summer Love New White' is a compact and robust variety of African Lily, bred for vigorous growth, long flowering, and pure white blooms that shine throughout summer. It belongs to the Summer Love series, known for its improved branching, strong stems, and ability to bloom profusely—even in the first season.

This cultivar produces tight, rounded umbels of crisp white, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom from mid-summer into early autumn, standing above clumps of strappy, dark green foliage. The flowers are held on strong stems (60–70 cm tall), making them excellent for borders, containers, and cut flower arrangements.

Compact and tidy, 'Summer Love New White' typically reaches 60–70 cm in height and 40–50 cm in spread, making it ideal for smaller garden spaces, patios, or as a striking filler in mixed beds.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Agapanthus 'Summer Love New White' is easy to grow, low maintenance, and thrives in sunny, free-draining locations. It will reward regular feeding and deadheading with a prolonged flowering season.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun (6+ hours/day)

  • Tolerates light partial shade but may reduce flowering

• Soil Requirements:

  • Grows best in well-drained, fertile soil

  • Suitable for sandy, gritty, or loamy conditions

  • Avoid poorly drained or heavy clay soils—especially in winter

• Watering Needs:

  • Water regularly during establishment and during dry periods

  • Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between watering

  • Reduce watering after flowering and during dormancy

• Feeding:

  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring as growth starts

  • Once flowering begins, switch to a high-potash fertiliser (e.g. tomato feed) every 2–3 weeks

  • Avoid excessive nitrogen, which encourages foliage at the expense of blooms

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Remove faded blooms to encourage continued flowering

  • Cut flower stems down to the base when finished

  • Remove yellowing leaves in autumn or early spring

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 8–10; mulch in late autumn for extra protection

  • In colder climates or heavy soils, grow in containers and overwinter in a sheltered, frost-free space

  • Avoid excessive winter wet to prevent crown and root rot

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
