Aloe Medivera® ‘Equator’ – Care Guide

Aloe Medivera® ‘Equator’ is a premium, medicinal-type aloe selected for its high-quality gel, strong growth habit, and excellent ornamental value. With its broad, fleshy, blue-green leaves and attractive rosette form, it is both a decorative houseplant and a functional aloe ideal for natural skincare use. This variety is more resilient than many aloes, with improved leaf thickness, higher gel content, and reliable indoor performance.

Planting & Position

• Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sun.

  • Can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially morning sun, but harsh midday light may scorch the leaves.

  • A bright windowsill, sunroom, or conservatory is ideal.

• Temperature:

  • Prefers 18–26°C, but tolerates normal household temperatures well.

  • Protect from cold draughts and avoid temperatures below 10°C.

• Soil:

  • Requires free-draining cactus or succulent compost.

  • If mixing your own, combine multipurpose compost with grit or perlite (50:50).

• Potting:

  • Choose a pot with good drainage holes.

  • Terracotta pots are ideal as they allow soil to dry more quickly.

Care & Maintenance

Aloe Medivera® ‘Equator’ is easy to grow with minimal care.

• Watering:

  • Water sparingly. Allow the top 3–5 cm of soil to dry out completely before watering again.

  • Water deeply, then let excess drain away. Never allow the plant to sit in water.

  • Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

• Feeding:

  • Feed lightly with a succulent fertiliser or a balanced houseplant feed at half strength every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer.

  • Do not feed in winter.

• Repotting:

  • Repot every 2–3 years into slightly larger pots using fresh succulent compost.

  • This encourages new growth and prevents root congestion.

• Pruning:

  • Remove dead, damaged, or dried leaves at the base.

  • Offsets (pups) may be removed and potted separately if desired.

• Water quality:

  • Aloe plants prefer soft water if available (rainwater ideal), but normal tap water is generally fine.

Seasonal Interest & Uses

• Foliage:

  • Broad, fleshy, architectural leaves form a striking rosette.

  • Blue-green colour with subtle spotting and a thick gel-rich interior.

• Flowers:

  • Mature plants may produce tall spikes of orange or coral-red tubular flowers, typically in spring or summer indoors.

• Medicinal gel:

  • Contains high-quality aloe gel for minor skin soothing, hydration, and cosmetic use (always test on a small area first).

  • Leaves should be harvested sparingly to maintain plant health.

• Best uses:

  • Decorative houseplant for bright rooms

  • Kitchen or bathroom windowsill plant

  • Natural, home-use aloe supply

  • Conservatories, warm offices, sunrooms

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
