Overview and Characteristics

Anemone × hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' is a classic white Japanese Anemone, prized for its elegant simplicity, upright habit, and long-lasting autumn blooms. Introduced in 1858, this cultivar remains a favourite in cottage gardens, shaded borders, and naturalistic planting schemes.

It features single, pure white flowers with golden-yellow stamens, held high on wiry stems that sway gently in the breeze. The dark green, deeply lobed foliage forms a handsome clump that provides attractive groundcover throughout the season.

Planting Conditions

This cultivar thrives in part-shade locations and brings much-needed brightness to dappled or woodland borders. It’s reliable, low-maintenance, and becomes more vigorous with age.

Light Requirements

• Partial shade is ideal, especially in hot, dry climates

• Can tolerate full sun if soil is kept consistently moist

• Not suitable for deep shade

Soil Preferences

• Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil

• Thrives in loam or clay-based soils enriched with organic matter

• Avoid overly dry or shallow sandy soils unless improved with compost

Planting Tips

• Plant in spring or autumn

• Space plants about 50–60 cm apart to allow room for spread

• Water thoroughly after planting and apply a mulch to retain moisture

Maintenance and Ongoing Care

Watering

• Requires regular watering during establishment and dry spells

• Mature plants are more drought-tolerant but flower best with consistent moisture

Feeding

• Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring

• Top-dress with compost or leaf mould each spring to feed soil life and improve structure

Deadheading and Pruning

• Deadhead to maintain appearance and extend blooming period

• In late autumn or early winter, cut back faded flower stems and old foliage

• In early spring, tidy the base and remove any winter-damaged growth

Winter and Longevity

• Fully hardy throughout Ireland and the UK

• No winter protection needed for established clumps

• Mulch annually in autumn to protect roots and enhance soil health

• Divide clumps every 3–5 years in spring to control spread and promote flowering

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
