• Arenaria montana is a low-growing, evergreen perennial known for its masses of bright white, star-shaped flowers.

• Blooms profusely in late spring to early summer, often covering the foliage completely.

• Forms compact, spreading mats of narrow, mid-green leaves.

• Typically grows to 10–15 cm in height, spreading up to 30 cm or more.

• Ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine beds, and edging pathways.

• Excellent for softening walls and cascading over raised beds.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering performance.

• Tolerates light partial shade but flowers most heavily in bright conditions.

• Prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate winter waterlogging.

• Performs well in sandy or gritty soils typical of alpine conditions.

• Improve heavy soils with grit to enhance drainage before planting.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the plant so the top of the root ball sits level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants around 25–30 cm apart to allow for spreading growth.

Arenaria montana thrives in sunny, open sites with excellent drainage.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are moderately drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, especially during winter months.

• Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil fertility is low.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as rich soil can reduce flowering.

• Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer.

• Ensure good airflow around plants to maintain healthy growth.

Full sun and free-draining soil promote a dense carpet of blooms.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Lightly trim back after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape.

• Remove any dead or damaged stems as needed.

• Avoid heavy pruning into older growth.

• Divide clumps every few years if plants become woody or sparse in the centre.

• Apply a light gravel mulch to improve drainage and keep foliage dry.

• Generally low maintenance and pest resistant in suitable conditions.

• Evergreen foliage provides year-round ground cover in milder climates.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
