Overview & Features

• Armeria maritima ‘Abbey White’ is a compact, evergreen perennial commonly known as Sea Thrift.

• Produces crisp white, globe-shaped flower heads held on slender upright stems.

• Flowers from late spring into early summer, often with repeat blooms if deadheaded.

• Forms neat mounds of fine, grass-like green foliage.

• Typically grows to 15–25 cm in height, ideal for edging and front-of-border planting.

• Excellent for rockeries, alpine beds, gravel gardens, and coastal locations.

• Highly tolerant of wind, salt spray, and exposed conditions.

• Attractive to bees and other pollinators.

This variety is valued for its clean white blooms and compact, tidy growth habit.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering and compact growth.

• Prefers well-drained, light soil and performs well in sandy or gravelly conditions.

• Does not tolerate heavy or waterlogged soil.

• Improve clay soils with grit to enhance drainage before planting.

• Ideal for raised beds, rockeries, edging pathways, and coastal planting.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the crown level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants approximately 20–30 cm apart to allow for natural clump formation.

Armeria thrives in sunny, open areas with excellent drainage.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish roots.

• Once established, plants are drought tolerant and require minimal watering.

• Avoid overwatering, particularly in winter months.

• Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil is very poor.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as overly rich soil may reduce flowering.

• Flowering typically begins in late spring and may continue into early summer.

• Deadhead faded blooms promptly to encourage further flowering and maintain a neat appearance.

Full sun and free-draining soil promote the best floral display.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Remove spent flower stems regularly to prolong blooming.

• Lightly trim foliage after the main flowering period if it becomes untidy.

• Avoid cutting back into the central crown.

• Divide mature clumps every few years in spring if they become overcrowded.

• Apply a light gravel mulch around the base to improve drainage and reduce excess moisture.

• Generally low maintenance and resistant to most pests and diseases.

• Evergreen foliage provides year-round structure in milder climates.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
