Overview & Features

• Aubrieta hybrid ‘Audrey Mid Blue’ is a compact, low-growing evergreen perennial known for its vibrant mid-blue spring flowers.

• Produces masses of blooms in mid to late spring, often creating a dense carpet of colour.

• Forms neat mats of small, grey-green foliage that provide year-round ground cover.

• Typically grows to 10–15 cm in height, spreading gradually over time.

• Ideal for rockeries, raised beds, gravel gardens, and cascading over walls.

• Excellent for edging pathways and softening stonework.

• Attractive to bees and other early pollinators.

This variety is valued for its intense flower colour and tidy, spreading habit.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering and compact growth.

• Tolerates light partial shade, though flowering may be reduced.

• Prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate winter waterlogging.

• Thrives in light, sandy, or gritty soils typical of alpine conditions.

• Improve heavy soils with grit or sand before planting.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the crown level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants approximately 25–30 cm apart to allow for spreading.

Aubrieta performs best in sunny, open areas with excellent drainage.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish roots.

• Once established, plants are drought tolerant and require minimal watering.

• Avoid overwatering, particularly in winter months.

• Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil is poor.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as rich soil can encourage foliage at the expense of flowers.

• Flowering typically occurs in mid to late spring.

• Deadheading is optional but may help maintain a neat appearance.

Full sun and free-draining soil ensure the best floral display.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Trim back lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth.

• Remove any dead or damaged stems as needed.

• Avoid cutting too deeply into older woody growth.

• Divide clumps every few years if plants become woody or sparse in the centre.

• Apply a light gravel mulch to improve drainage and reduce moisture around the crown.

• Generally low maintenance and pest resistant when grown in suitable conditions.

• Evergreen foliage provides year-round coverage in milder climates.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
