Overview & Features

• Buddleia, commonly known as Butterfly Bush, is a fast-growing deciduous shrub prized for its long, fragrant flower spikes.

• Available in a range of varieties with blooms in purple, pink, white, blue, and deep red shades.

• Produces cone-shaped flower panicles from mid-summer into early autumn.

• Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.

• Features narrow, grey-green foliage with a soft texture.

• Growth habit ranges from compact dwarf forms to larger arching shrubs depending on the variety.

• Typically grows between 60 cm and 3 metres in height depending on type.

• Ideal for borders, wildlife gardens, and informal hedging.

Buddleia varieties are valued for their vibrant summer colour and wildlife appeal.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering performance.

• Prefers well-drained soil and tolerates poor or chalky conditions.

• Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils.

• Thrives in moderately fertile soil without excessive feeding.

• Suitable for open, sunny borders and cottage-style gardens.

• Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball and the same depth.

• Plant at the same depth as it was in the container and firm gently.

• Allow space according to the mature size of the chosen variety.

Buddleia performs best in warm, sunny, well-drained sites.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, particularly in winter.

• Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil is poor.

• Excess feeding may encourage leafy growth over flowers.

• Flowering typically occurs from mid-summer into early autumn.

• Deadheading encourages prolonged blooming.

Full sun ensures abundant flower production and stronger fragrance.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Prune hard in late winter or early spring before new growth appears.

• Cut back to 30–60 cm above ground level for most varieties.

• Remove dead or weak stems to encourage vigorous new growth.

• Deadhead spent flower spikes during summer to extend flowering.

• Mulch annually to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

• Generally low maintenance and hardy once established.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
