Camellia Mix – Plant Care Guide

Camellia Mix includes a range of camellia varieties grown for their glossy evergreen foliage and elegant flowers in shades of pink, red, and white. Flowering from late winter through spring, camellias provide valuable colour and structure at a time when many plants are still dormant. They are well suited to gardens, patios, and large containers.

Light Requirements

• Prefers partial shade

• Best grown in bright, sheltered positions

• Morning sun with protection from strong afternoon sun is ideal

• Avoid full, hot sun which can scorch leaves and flowers

• Shelter from cold, drying winds is important

Watering

• Likes consistently moist but well-drained soil

• Water regularly, especially during dry spells and while establishing

• Container-grown plants need more frequent watering

• Avoid allowing soil to dry out completely

• Do not allow roots to sit in waterlogged conditions

Soil and Planting

• Thrives in acidic, ericaceous soil

• Suitable for planting in borders or large containers

• Improve garden soil with organic matter before planting

• Use ericaceous compost for container-grown plants

• Plant with the root ball level with the soil surface

Feeding

• Feed with an ericaceous fertiliser in spring after flowering

• A second light feed in early summer can support healthy growth

• Mulching with leaf mould or compost helps maintain soil condition

• Avoid lime or general-purpose fertilisers

• Do not overfeed, as camellias prefer gentle feeding

Temperature and Hardiness

• Hardy in mild climates but flowers can be damaged by hard frost

• Performs best in cool to moderate conditions

• Protect buds and flowers from late frosts where possible

• Container plants may need winter protection in colder areas

• Sudden temperature changes can cause bud drop

Maintenance and Care

• Low maintenance once established

• Prune lightly after flowering if shaping is needed

• Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches

• Mulch annually to retain moisture and protect roots

• Avoid disturbing roots, as camellias dislike being moved

• Yellowing leaves may indicate alkaline soil or nutrient deficiency

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
